I want to cup their faces, look into their eyes. What are you doing here? You were not made for this. I am no better and I don’t know why I wasn’t born here, why my children weren’t born here and we all could have been. We all could have been.

I fill each cup to the rim for children living on the rim. I fill a cup that looks like the basin for a small blender. I swallow hard. I fill a cup that is a white cowboy boot with a spur. My heart can feel it’s forcing sharpness. Get moving God! Do Something! Move your people! Wake up! Wake up! Come riding!

The mother in the slum whose little girl has gone missing. The twelve year old prostitute pregnant by a sweaty stranger. The boy who’s father, possessed by addiction, beats him every night. The girl who picks through trash for breakfast. The student whose stomach growls for days before being filled. These are blessed not because physical poverty is good – it is evil – but because their poverty has shaken them to the end of their rope, into spiritual poverty. Dependent, they fling their fears and needs onto God’s shoulders. Hopeless and helpless, they come to Him alone for daily bread/Bread.
They dwell in and on Him forever and want for nothing.

thanks for the guidance mom!
for this long weekend we snuck away to the coolest, closest city i’d never been to. living in florida you can tend to feel a little trapped as far as quick adventures and new scenery go - but this 6 hour drive was well worth it.
as for planning, it was kinda a last minute trip we embarked on so i tried to just broadcast a request for must-see places, and with the help of a few awesome friends and my trusty old iphone we found a few. other than that, most of these shops & restaurants we just happend upon during our wanderings.
here are a few snapshots of my favorite places [& things] in savannah.

with so many amazing things to see [& eat] i must say my favorite thing about this trip was the boy who took me to all these yummy places. it’s been a little over 4 years since our first trip together and i’m so thankful for the man that God has given me to be my husband, friend and ultimate adventure seeker!
